The Best Basketball Workouts – Learn How To Train Like The Pros

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

The Best Basketball Workouts consists of everything that you would execute in a real basketball game. So that way when you get into a real basketball game, you won’t even have to think about the move your going to make, you’ll just let your instincts take over.

Great basketball players like Kobe Bryant or Lebron James don’t predetermine the moves they are going while in a game. They might have go-to moves but they are not deciding in advance the basketball move they are going to make on the defense.

They are just simply playing within the flow of the game and letting their basketball instincts make the right moves for them. They can do this because they worked on thousands of different basketball scenarios in their training so they are confident and prepared for whatever the defense throws at them.

You can have those same basketball instincts or even better, it just depends on how bad do you want it? Lets break it down.

What The Best Workouts Consists of?

1.Game Speed

It only makes sense to workout at game speed because you need to be able to execute your moves at that speed in the real game.

For example, if you been executing a hesitation crossover perfectly in your training, but been only doing it half-speed. When your in a real game and try to do the move, you might just lose the ball or dribble it off your feet because you are not used to doing it that fast.

So when you are doing your drills, it’s best to go at a speed that you are you uncomfortable at. You will mess up a lot but that is okay because mistakes means your actually trying and your one repetition closer to being successful.

2.Workouts Are Planned Out

When you walk into a gym and have no clue on what areas of your game that you are going to work on, you open the door to distractions.

You start shooting the ball around and taking shots that you won’t take in a real game. You might get to talking to some of your buddies or getting on your phone and scrolling through your social media timeline.

Then before you know it, an hour and a half done past by and your ready to go home and didn’t make any improvements in your basketball skills.

It is always best to take some time out before you leave to the gym to plan out your workout. That way once you step foot in the gym, you already know what to do and can get right to work. No time wasted.

3.Game Specific

This is probably the most important aspect when it comes to getting better at basketball.

I see a lot of basketball trainers nowadays using doing all these crazy basketball drills that have no relation to the real game. They would have a players dribble through hundreds of cones and jump over hurdles just to get one shot off.

That is not realistic and would NEVER do that in a real game. It might look fun but it won’t make you better basketball player.

You need drills that simulate real game situations such as pick and roll, attacking off the dribble, catch and shoot, etc… Those are the drills that turns a bench player into a star player.

4.Develop Weaknesses, Enhance Strengths

The focus of your basketball workouts should be around developing your weaknesses and turning them into strengths.

Every basketball player has weaknesses whether it be dribbling with your off-hand, shooting the basketball, or finishing around the rim. Whatever your weakness may be, it’s up to you to seek it out and make it a focal point of your workouts.

If you can shoot the ball well, but can’t dribble a lick with your left hand. It doesn’t make sense to do only shooting drills in your workouts. You should be spending time doing ball handling drills with your left hand.

The process of turning your weaknesses into strengths makes you a overall better basketball player and a nightmare for the poor defender that has to guard you during the game.

5.Rep It Out

We all heard the old saying, “Repetition is the father of learning”, it still stands true today.

You could be doing everything right when it comes to working on your basketball skills. You could be making sure your drills simulate game situations, your going game speed, focusing on developing your strengths, etc…

But if your not getting enough repetitions in your drills, it’s going to take even longer to see improvements in your game.

The number of repetitions you should be doing for each drill depends upon your skill level. If your not particularly good at a certain drill, you should be doing more reps for that drill until you become comfortable at it.

On the other hand, if you are good at doing a certain drill, you shouldn’t be trying to the maximum number of reps because you already know how to do it.

The game of basketball is an endurance sport and fatigue makes a fool out of us all. It doesn’t matter how good or talented you are.

You can be the best basketball player on your team, but if you can only play hard for 5 to 10 minutes before asking for a breather that is not going to help your team win.

Look at the best players in the world like Lebron James or Stephen Curry, they play anywhere from 35 to 40 minutes A GAME. Sometimes they might not even get a break depending on how close the game is.

That is why it is so important to value conditioning in your workouts because the player who has the most endurance are in the right state of mind to make the right basketball play and not let fatigue cloud their judgement.

  1. The Scoring Academy seems like a pretty awesome product.  However, I am one of the coaches for my sons basketball team.  They are only 7th graders, though.  Do you think this training program is easy enough for 7th graders to follow.

Their team has been doing pretty good this year.  However, we are hoping to take them to the next level this year.
